Hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and individual blemishes are usually as a result of inflammation to the skin. When the skin becomes overly inflamed it respsnds by increasing the production of melanin. Melanin is a pigment in our skin that is designed to protect the skin primarily from UVA and UVB exposure.
Most hyperpigmentation creams and lotions work by suppressing the over production of melanin that creates localised areas of darker pigmentaion.

Featuring a potent new blemish reducing active from Sederma, Luminosa is a potent and effective treatment for age spots, sun spots, and uneven skin tone (hyperpigmentation) arising from sun damage.

Ideal for:
Melasma dark patches usually arising during pregnancy or can result after taking oral contraceptives or HRT
Chloasma (as above)
Hyper-pigmentation -skin discolouration, blemishes, or darkened patches usually arising from inflammation (sun damage etc)
Blemishes resulting from acne outbreaks
Freckles, blemishes arising from over exposure to sunlight
Age spots sometimes known as liver spots due to their colour.

Please Note - this is not a skin bleaching cream. It will not lighten the skin beyond its genetically pre-determined colour. It's 'lightening' properties refer to its ability to restore the actual tone of areas of skin that are darker than they ought to be.
As a result of new research into the tendency of arbutin and kojic aid to gradually lose their effectiveness once introduced into a formulation (cream lotions etc) we have replaced the two active ingredients with a new exciting peptide that inhibits excess melanin formation and thus gradually restores the true colour of your complexion. In clinical trials this peptide outperformed both arbutin and kojic acid.

How the cream works. Hyper-pigmentation and blemishes are usually caused by some form of trauma to the skin - sun damage, acne, eczema etc. When the skin is damaged or traumatised it responds by creating melanin as a protection measure. Melanin is the protective pigment in all our skin. The creation of melanin is not always uniform and thus localised patches of skin with excess melanin can appear.
Blemish reduction creams do not work by bleaching or lightening the pigmented areas. They work by suppressing the amount of melanin created by the skin.
Our skin is replaced (depending on your age) every 4 to 12 weeks. As the layers of skin are shed and replaced by new layers the skin attempts to duplicate as precisely as possible the layer of skin that is to be shed. Have you ever wondered why even childhood scars stay even though the skin has been replaced many many times? Its because the skin has re-created the scar in every layer of skin that it has since generated. It's the same with blemishes. The skin will even recreate the patches of uneven melanin. This cream intervenes to prevent the skin from creating too much melanin so, as the uppermost layer of skin is shed, the skin does not duplicate quite as precisely the same patches of over-pigmented skin that are being replaced. It will take one complete skin cycle to begin to see the results as the uppermost layer of skin will need to be replaced by a new, less pigmented. layer.

Really good cream. Feels great on the skin ( not too heavy). I've been using the cream for 3 months - I'm on my second pot - and a lot of the darker spots I had from acne have lightened considerably. I use the Alpha Glow toner and this cream daily and I believe it is the combination of both that has helped my skin

Great cream. After using two jars my skin is definitely more even in colour and many patches of pigmentation have almost disappeared. I will continue to use and hope that all the blemishes disappear,

I've used lots of expensive moisturisers and am pleasantly surprised at the value for money I get from this product. It feels really nice on the skin though I would prefer a slightly richer cream. But the best part is that my blemishes (following some acne outbreaks a while ago) have faded noticeably. I have quite sensitive skin and my skin is absolutely fine with this cream. Highly recommended

I do like this product- no hidden nasties in the ingredients. It feels good on my skin and hasn't caused any breakouts which I am prone to. However, I feel like I have to use a lot of the product in order to get my skin hydrated - once it's soaked in I always feel like more needs to be applied. In addition, I'm not really sure it's had any effect on my hyperpigmentation. I've been using the product since August, so a bit over two months of continuous use, morning and night. It probably needs more time... I'm using this in combination with the XX10 Vitamin C serum and the Alpha Bright Gel. I might buy a more hydrating moisturiser and stick with the Vit C and Alpha Bright Gel.

I previously used a microfibre cloth and oil to remove my makeup and developed a brownish-yellow area around my mouth! So I started using this cream in combination with Alpha-Clear and the foaming cleanser. After a month the light pigmentation around my mouth was gone! Very pleased with the results. Not sure if the results were caused only by Luminosa, or by my combination of products, though...Also, Luminosa has a specific smell that I didn't really like, so I used it before going to sleep.
